ABSTRACT
This
research work titled “assessment of the contribution of television to the development of Lagos
state (study of television continental (TVC)”
aimed to find out whether television as a broadcast media helps in the
development of Lagos State. Nigeria is a fairly democratic country which Lagos
State is among the States in Nigeria. However, in democratic governments,
factors such as technological advancement, the intended audience and the
message manipulates how far the media have impacts on the society and its
development for quality and effective standard of living. To achieve maximum
and accurate findings, the researcher adopted survey design. This allows the
researcher to gather necessary information with the use of questionnaire,
copies of questionnaire printed and were administered and retrieved from the
respondents who were randomly selected. The findings show that television
contributes largely to the development of Lagos State and that television
influences events in the society for adequate development through various
information, messages and programmes. The researcher also made some
recommendations based on the findings of the research that Mass media
(television) should be well encouraged in Nigeria especially Lagos State to
enhance their performance and to keep people informed about the concept of
development and importance of development to a nation, State. Government and
its various agencies should be well encouraged on their impact and importance
on the concept of development so as to influence the performance of media
practitioners and that individuals, non-government association and various
groups in the society should contribute to governmental development activities
by providing adequate support to government.
